Council and Public Sector Pay Strike

July 2008
It came as a surprise to many that Council/Public workers are in the 2nd day of a 48-hour walk-out in their pay dispute.

One member of the public stated they had not noticed the difference.

One advantage of the strike will be the ease of calculating the high absenteeism in the public sector.

It has been assumed by many private pension holders that the public sector pension may suffer the same fate as their own fully funded pension.

Seemingly the total logic of this argument was lost in the calculation of the pay claim by the public sector.

Rallies (including Monaco and Dakar) and marches are being held.

Trouble nearly started when the Free Nelson Mandela ‘T’ Shirts were put on sale.

One local councils ‘in house’ solicitor claimed this was misleading and the ‘T’ Shirt should have had a disclaimer on them explaining the idiosyncratic statement.

However the disclaimer was of such length that only the XXXX Large size could accommodate the statement, and a compromise was reached with new ‘T’ Shirts saying “NOT SO” Free Nelson Mandela ‘T’ for Sale.

The hoped profit from the sale was lost and the deficit is hoped to be recouped in any future negotiations.

The original ‘T’ Shirts were last seen heading for a landfill site which cannot be named under the little known legislation ‘NOT SO’ Freedom Of Information Act.
