MP's Expenses

July 2008
MPs reject the proposed changes to their expenses including eliminating the now infamous so-called John Lewis list.

The vote to retain the right to claim the £24,000 for kitchens/bathrooms, furniture, electrical items etc for their 2nd habitat is an embarrassment for the Prime Minister, with an unexpected high number of ministers including the Home Secretary voting for the Status Quo.

Status Quo were at one time banned by the BBC, this maybe why the report was soon buried behind the London Deputy Mayor fiasco.

Whilst the MP’s vote was relevant to all 60 million of the UK population, the mayoral debacle only affected Londoners.

Voting was 172 for with 144 against a majority 28
Interesting to note:
Number of sitting MP’s 646
Number who voted 316
Those not present 330
Over half of the MP’s failed to give their opinion.

Perhaps they had already left to catch the early Gravy Train which continues its destination to that highly exclusive location ‘Snout in the Trough’??
